THE LORE
"Between death and rebirth lies the Bardo — a space of transition, of memory, of becoming."
I. What is The Bardo?
The Bardo is the liminal space between lives. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, it is the intermediate state between death and rebirth — a place where consciousness wanders, encountering visions both terrifying and beautiful.
In this world, The Bardo has become something more. It is a place that has taken on a life of its own — a vast, interconnected realm where souls gather, explore, fight, and seek meaning before their next incarnation. Some say it has always existed. Others believe it was created by the collective unconscious of those who refuse to move on.
II. The World
The Bardo is not a single place — it is many places, layered and interconnected. Sunlit meadows give way to dark forests. Ancient stone corridors lead to impossible geometries. Water flows upward in some regions. Fire burns without heat in others.
The landscape shifts and changes, though not randomly. The Bardo responds to those who inhabit it. Well-traveled paths become clearer. Forgotten regions grow wild and dangerous. The deeper you go, the stranger things become.
"The map is not the territory, but in The Bardo, the territory remembers who has mapped it."
III. Death and Rebirth
Death in The Bardo is not an ending — it is a transition. When you fall, your consciousness dissolves back into the fabric of the world. Your memories scatter like dust.
You will return. You always return. But you return changed — some knowledge carried forward as instinct, some lost entirely. The cycle continues until... well, no one has yet discovered what breaks the cycle. Perhaps nothing does.
IV. The Inhabitants
You are not alone in The Bardo. Other souls wander these halls — some cooperative, some hostile, all seeking something they cannot quite name.
Beyond the wandering souls, there are beings that belong to The Bardo itself. Creatures born from the collective fears and hopes of those who have passed through. Some are guardians. Some are predators. Some are both.
V. The Unsolved Mystery
There are whispers among the long-dead — those who have cycled through The Bardo so many times they have begun to remember. They speak of a place deeper than the deepest dungeon. A source. An origin point.
What lies at the heart of The Bardo? Why does the cycle continue? Is there an end — or is the journey itself the purpose?
These questions remain unanswered. Perhaps you will be the one to find the truth.
